Let's Learn about Cloning!
taught by: Jadran Popovic (Croatia), animation Ivan (Russia)
Welcome to my lesson!
Sometimes we wish that we can have a clone of ourselves to do our homeworks, our tests and many other things that we are not very fond of. Even to go to school instead of us on Monday morning!
Just imagine that! We are biking in the park, running on the beach, having a great time with our friends while our clones are doing everything for us!
Imagine if we could really do that. Where will we start?
But, there are so many questions to answer. Only supreme scientists know the true about this mysterious part of science.
I'm going to be one of them for you.
I want to ensure you all that there are human clones among us now. They weren't created in a laboratory. They live like identical twins, created in natural way. They can serve us as the original model of modern cloning technologies.
What is cloning?
So far we have found out that cloning is the creation of an organism that is a true copy of another. This means that every detail of DNA is the same between these two organisms!
How is cloning done?
Have you heard about Dolly the Sheep? That happened in 1997. But cloning technologies have been around us before Dolly was born.
How is it possible to make a true and exact genetic copy of an organism? There are several ways to do this:
Embryo? Twinning? What's that?
Well, an embryo is the organism at its early stage of its development.
Twinning is giving birth to two or more genetically identical siblings (brother or sister born by the same parents)
Are there any twin-brothers or twin-sisters in your class? Are they clones?
