There is a lot to tell about the place we live in which is Mississippi . We have interesting temperature, a vast river, a coastline with lots of activities to do, and a flat surface. Just to help you find our state of Mississippi on a map, it is located at Longitude: 88° 7' W to 91° 41' W
Latitude: 30° 13' N to 35° N. Mississippi is 340 miles long and 170 miles wide, so it isn't terribly large. We are surrounded by Tennessee on the north, Louisiana on the west, Alabama on the east, and the Gulf of Mexico on the south.
First, I will talk about the temperature down here. It is mostly hot and dry during the summer. But during the winter it is cold and wet! But something that you would never see is snow. The temperatures are always crazy. Sometimes during the winter it can be very hot, as if it was summer all over again. The temperature is different down here. The monthly average temperatures range from a high of 92.5 degrees Fahrenheit to a low of 34.9 degrees Fahrenheit. The highest temperature ever recorded in Mississippi was 115 degrees Fahrenheit. The lowest temperature ever recorded in Mississippi was -19 degrees Fahrenheit.
Secondly, I will talk about the Mississippi River . This river goes through almost the whole Mississippi valley. There is a lot of fish and sea life in that river. The river is very well known around the whole U.S.A. The river begins in St. Louis , Missouri and the mouth of the river ends in New Orleans , Louisiana .
Thirdly, I will talk about the coastline here. We just had a very bad hurricane. So now our coastline is badly damaged. Most houses are gone, but we still have a beach, schools, and businesses. Our beach is now very beautiful during the summer! Today, you still see people getting out on their boats and going for a ride. Some even go skiing, jet skiing, or tubing. During events, such as 4th of July, some go down to the beach to shoot fireworks, or just watch them. The beach is a wonderful place to have some fun.
Finally, I will talk about the flat surface. Not much hills or mountains here, but there is grasslands or just plain flat surface. We have a lot of area just to run around without going down a hill or mountain. Our surface is very plain and flat. You can see from a far distance because of the land being so flat! The mean elevation of the state of Mississippi is 300 feet above sea level, so that gives you an idea about our elevation. That is what's all about the geography of the place we live in, Mississippi .
