Greeks founded the first colonies on Adriatic islands.

Around 100BC

Romans ruled over the east coast of the Adriatic Sea.

305

Diocletian, the Roman emperor, founded a town in present-day Split.

 

Around 600

Croats started to move to today's Croatia.

852

The name Croatia was first time mentioned by Duke Trpimir's Charter, the official document.

925

The first Croatian king Tomislav, known as the unifier of Pannonian and Dalmatian Croatia.

1102

When Petar Svacic, the last Croatian king died, Croatia entered into the union with Hungary.

1242

Hugarian King Bela IV issued the Golden Bull, Zagreb proclaimed a Free Royal City.

1433

The fight against the Turks began, they occupied the larger part of Croatian territory.

1527

The Croatian Assembly had decided that the dynasty of Habsburg came to the Croatian throne.

1699

Croatia mainly liberated of Turks. Continental Croatia Habsburg. Largest part of Adriatic coast and islands -Venice. Dubrovnik - independent.

1847

Croatian became the official language of Croatia, replacing the Latin l.

1848

Ban (Viceroy) Josip Jelacic united all Croatian provinces.

1866

Bishop Josip Juraj Strossmayer founded the Croatian Academy of Arts and Science, the first in southeastern Europe.

1918

Croatia became a part of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, later proclaimed Yugoslavia.

1941

Croatian antifascists under the guidance of Josip Broz Tito organized partisan resistance.

1945

Croatia became a federative republic of the Federative Socialist

Republic of Yugoslavia.

1990

The first multiparty elections after World War II were held in Croatia.

1991

Croatia proclaimed independence. Local Serbs and the Yugoslav National Army occupied ? of its territory. The war started. 1992 - The Republic of Croatia became a member of the United Nations.

2005

Accession negotiatons between Croatia and European Union have started.

2007

Our school is the first school in Croatia that participates in the GVC project.
