| 1927 | The first exhibition of space apparatus design was organized in Moscow . |
| 1954 | Soviet scientists made proposals and counts for sending sputnik. |
| 1957 | First successful orbital launch was a Soviet unmanned spacecraft Sputnik. This spurred the race to space. |
| 1958 | The first sputnik for researches was sent. |
| 1958 | Explorer 1, the first satellite in orbit, lifts off Cape Canaveral . |
| 1959 | N.A.S.A. was founded. |
| 1960 | Mercury Freedom 7 carries Alan B. Shepard Jr. into orbital flight |
| 1961 | Russian cosmonaut Juriy Gagarin was the first man to fly to space. |
