GVC-06: Immortals and Heroes of the World Immortals of the Ages Heroes of Our Imagination Behind the Scenes

Petunia Agnes

"They're attacking! The Vikings are attacking!" screamed a desperate villager. The air was filled with the smoke of their rifles and the sound of their screams could be heard throughout the village. People were running about frantically trying to make their way to safety before the Vikings could reach them. Small children were crying for their mothers and old men and women were huddling in corners, trying to keep from getting trampled by the frenzied stampede that was headed their way. Through all the commotion, nobody even noticed the small, muscular lady watching the scene roll out from her perch on top of the tree.

This lady was Petunia Agnus. She was what you would call a rookie to the superhero world. Nobody knew her name, and she rarely spoke to anyone, except the shopkeeper down the road, and the milkman who came by once a week. She lived in a small tent next to the main road, but she hardly ever came out, and the only signs of life from her tent were loud grunts and long, unhappy sighs. She wasn't the most attractive person either. Her hair was dark purple, her eyes were bright green, and her teeth were pure gold. Her legs and arms were so muscular, that at first glance she looked as if she had apples bulging out of her skin.

To most people, she was just another villager, but that day, everything changed. It was when a middle-aged woman was thrown into the wall by a big, muscular, angry-looking Viking that Petunia made her move. She flipped off the tree she was sitting on, ran towards the fleet of Vikings at the speed of light, and began heaving at them everything she could get her hands on. The spiteful warriors, obviously very startled, began frantically throwing their burning torches at her, but the fire went right through Petunia, who was immortal, and could withstand any physical torture. By now the Vikings were very scared, and doing everything they could to fight off the invincible lady in front of them. One man even went as far as throwing himself towards her with all his force, thrashing and biting at her skin, but his efforts simply tired him out, and after a while, he relented, leaving Petunia unharmed. Some Vikings had backed away, and were running as fast as they could towards their boats, looking back occasionally to make sure they weren't being followed. Others, however, had remained in their places. Petunia simply stared at them, and without taking her eyes away, she lifted a tall, well-built man in front of her off his feet, and hauled him into the three soldiers to her left, knocking them down like dominos. Then, without warning, she catapulted herself into the air, knocking away warriors with her feet as she went by.

The whole village had stopped running, and was now staring at this incredible woman, spellbound. Never had anyone seen such a sight, and furthermore, nobody had ever seen the strong and powerful Vikings afraid! Every second, more men began to back away towards their boats, and after only about ten minutes, their ships had pulled out of the harbour and were dwindling out of sight.

Petunia turned around and stared at the awestruck crowd. Then, slowly, she moved towards the lady who had been thrown against the wall, and knelt down beside her. She pulled a knife out of her jacket pocket and poked a small hole in her middle finger. Without hesitation, she squeezed three drops of blood onto the woman's open wound. Suddenly, as if by magic, the gash began to fade, and in the blink of an eyelid, it was gone! The lady gazed up at Petunia in amazement, and then pinched herself hard on the arm to make sure she wasn't dreaming. The crowd of people had moved in towards the woman to see for themselves if the wound had actually disappeared. Stifled gasps came from the swarm of villagers as they gawked at the lady's miraculously healed wound. All eyes were turned swiftly to Petunia who was still kneeling on the floor with the knife in her hand. All of a sudden, the lady looked Petunia straight in the eyes, and then wrapped her arms around her. Petunia, who had never had any real family or friends didn't know what to do. Fighting off the Vikings had been an easy task for her, but now, dealing with a show of affection, she was completely helpless. Before she knew it, she was being carried through the crowd of cheering villagers, and for the first time in her life, she felt like she belonged.
