Cities Where Landau Worked

1908 - Baku... every life starts with birth....Landau was born in Baku, here he started his way in science - finished school and entered University.

1924 - Leningrad while studying in Baku University Landau decided to continue his (now it is St.Petersburg)... education in Leningrad State University on the faculty of Phyzics.

1929 - Copenhagen... it is the city where he first met his future teacher and a good friend - Niels Bohr. Landau loved that period of his youth, it was the time of very interesting communication and effective work.

Winter 1930 - Zurich...this city is connected with wonderful results, Landau worked with Pauly and got interested in quantum movement of electrons in magnetostaticfield.

Spring 1930 - Cambridge... working with Pauly in Zurich, Landau started a wonderful and very important research. Then he met Rutherford in Cambridge, it helped Landau in his work on Diamagnetism. Since then on the level with Pauly´s Paramagnetism Landau´s Diamagnetism exists.

1931 - Leningrad... Landau came to Leningrad after his scientific trip abroad, he continued to work as research officer at Physical and Engineering Institute.

1933 - Kharkov... he went there to head the department of Theoretical Physics in Kharkov University

1937 - Moscow... Landau moved to Moscow to connect his life with the Institute of Physical Problems, Landau was a head of theoretical department. Moscow became the city of his life, his work and his love, though he had some more scientific trips, not very long ones and he always returned home!
