Leo Landau

First discoveries.

Landau was a wonderful man in many branches of life...he was an exception!

We will try to prove this statement...just try to imaging a boy who being 12 finished the gymnasia. He is 14 - and he graduated from Economic

College of Baku. That means that he became a real student of the University when he was 14.

At the age of 18, when common young people just finish school and enter Universities, Lev Landau took part in the work of the fifth conference of Physicists, which took place in Moscow, December 1926.

His first scientific work was published in 1926 too, it was called "To the theiry of spectrum of diatomic molecule".

When he graduated from the University and became a candidate, Lev Landau made his first big discovery. In the work "The Problem of Braking by Radiation" he used a new notion - density matrix to describe the condition of the system.

Then followed his scientific trip abroad resulted in discovering Landau´s Diamagnetism and publishing the work which place Landau on one level with the greatest physicists of the world.

These are the first works only, Landau did much for the science during his life, as he called himself "physicist in the first place, and only then – a man"!
