Facing Terrorist Attacks
by Jason B  (WM)
Generation Y will have to face many challenges in their lifetime. Among the many challenges are terrorist attacks. To protect ourselves from terrorist attacks our generation will have to increase security for our countries, be more cautious of where and how to travel, and be more aware of terrorist threats.

National security is one of the most important aspects of protection against terrorist attacks. It is always hard to know when terrorists will strike so it is vital to take all precautions such as different countries working together. On September 14, 2005 the World Summit, Security Council held a high-level meeting and adopted Resolution 1624 which forbids all acts of terrorism irrespective of their motivation, as well as the incitement to such acts. This shows that countries are working together to stop terrorism.

People of this generation will also have to be more cautious of where and how they travel. It is always possible for a terrorist attack to occur especially with public transportation like airplanes, trains, or ships. Since the security at airports has increased, flying might be one of the safest means of transportation in the United States. In other countries it is a matter of how likely a terrorist attack is to occur. If it is a place that wouldn't get much attention in the news then it is probably a safer place to go because terrorists want people to know about their actions of terror so they attack places of large population and importance.

It is also important to take any terrorist threat seriously, no matter what it may be. This is because any attack can be tragic and harmful. For example, there were people who suspected something of the nature of the attack on September 11 but others were unwilling to take it seriously. As a result, the attack was followed through and many people were killed and injured. This is a good example of why it is so important to take any threats seriously even if it doesn't seem like the threat could ever possibly happen.

Increasing security of countries, being more cautious of where and how to travel, and being more aware of terrorist threats are all challenges that Generation Y will have to face. If we can take on these challenges, the possibility of terrorist attacks will be much lower and we will not have to live in fear.
